More than 1,600 people from 23 countries recently participated in a Latin American Center for Social Evangelization webinar that honored the fifth anniversary of Laudato Si’.
“Care For Our Common Home” was the title of the workshop that featured contributions from Mons. Carlos J. Tissera, Bishop of the Diocese of Quilmes, Argentina; Silvia Alonso of the Argentina chapter for the Global Catholic Climate Movement; and Martha Arriola of Caregivers For Our Common Home.
Alonso said that “coordination between the organizing entities”, along with the ongoing quarantine in so many countries because of the coronavirus pandemic, helped the conference welcome such a large number of individuals throughout the world.
Attendees hailed from every Latin American country and from European and Asian countries, including from Germany, Spain, The Philippines, and India.
Hugo Fantini, president of the center, closed the workshop by quoting Laudato Si’:
“We need to see that what is at stake is our own dignity. Leaving an inhabitable planet to future generations is, first and foremost, up to us. The issue is one which dramatically affects us, for it has to do with the ultimate meaning of our earthly sojourn.”
